Frequently Asked Questions
Why did you write AIM HIGH!?
While raising my children, I realized that teenagers hadn't really changed since I was a teen. It was no
easier being a teen now, perhaps, even tougher due to single-parent homes, than when I was a teen.
What is different about AIM HIGH! when compared to other teenage self-help books?
Everything. You will see from the AIM HIGH! sample pages that the type and page format – very few lines and very
large print – are engaging rather than intimidating.
Isn't this a rather simplistic and easy approach to learning lessons for life?
Yes it is. AIM HIGH! is a book that 95% of teenagers surveyed found easy to read and understand.
Shouldn't a book challenge a teenager?
Some books should be a challenge to read – others ought to be simple and be read for their message, in this case,
resulting in life improvement.
How can teenagers learn from AIM HIGH!?
AIM HIGH! teaches common sense tips for teenagers to improve their lives. Think of each tip as a seed
that is planted in a teenager's mind, to later bloom as the teenager grows and matures. The beauty of AIM
HIGH! is that it is teenager-friendly.
Why are teenagers so distant and contrary?
The teenage mind is an ever-growing and changing part of their body. In addition, as they grow into adults,
teenagers' hormones and body chemistry are changing. All these bodily changes make the teenager an evolving work of
anatomy and intelligence.
How does a teenager learn these tips?
Reading and repetition. The idea is for every teenager to have AIM HIGH! when they are in 6th grade and
to keep their book through high school. 50% of the teenagers said they would read AIM HIGH! again. With a
bit of coaxing, a teen will read AIM HIGH! at least once a year.
How can a book keep a teen's attention year after year?
Some teenagers will incorporate the tips into their life after reading a tip once while others could take years to absorb the message.
The book with the seeds is theirs. Each year as they grow, another tip may apply to their life that perhaps was not applicable before.
Why are there blank pages at the end of the book?
Not every teenager learns the same way. Some children dislike reading, some like to read quickly, some like to
be lectured. Some teens like to take notes and others doodle. The blank pages allow teens to be themselves, to take
notes, write, or doodle, whatever they want as they have the book in their hands. The objective is to have them
pick up the book and read it. Almost any part they read, whether one hundred pages or ten, will help them.
Why is AIM HIGH! an effective means to teach children?
AIM HIGH! is effective because teenagers read the book and learn from it. The survey shows that AIM
HIGH! is an easy to read and understand book of commons sense tips that help a teenager grow into an adult.
Why should a corporation use a book for marketing their product?
American children see more than 40,000 television commercials a year. With AIM HIGH!, the corporate
sponsor will differentiate itself while making a positive impact on children.
Can more than one corporation distribute AIM HIGH!?
AIM HIGH! will be unique to the corporation that opts to distribute it.
Why should a foundation distribute AIM HIGH!?
Many foundations have education as one of their goals. There are many ways a foundation can spend its money. But
how does a foundation help every child? The answer is distributing AIM HIGH! to all of them. AIM
HIGH! is the easiest and most cost-effective way to help each individual teenager.
If a foundation really wants to use money to help educate and reach every teenager, AIM HIGH! can achieve
that goal. A foundation chooses where to spend its money and there is no better way to enhance civility in
teenagers and have teens learn important lessons for life than having teenagers read and discuss AIM
HIGH!
Why did you have an evaluation survey done on AIM HIGH!?
In order to gauge the effect AIM HIGH! has on teenagers, Luth Research, an independent research firm, did
a survey showing the positive effects of AIM HIGH! on teenagers. Two thirds of the teenagers surveyed said
that AIM HIGH! helped motivate them "to set a higher standard" for their lives and also that the book could
help "improve the way" they think and act. What other book or educational aid can claim this?
Who or what is Luth Research?
Located in San Diego, Luth Research is a firm that has been doing analytical research since 1977.
What about the reactions of parents?
Three quarters of the parents surveyed believed that AIM HIGH! helped their teenager set higher standards
and that they would recommend AIM HIGH! to other parents for their children.
Why are there arrows on the pages?
For fun. If a teenager is bored, she or he can always fan the pages and see the arrows go up and down. But, more
importantly, as teenagers read the book, they can mark their progress by seeing the arrows rise in the book – they
are "aiming high."
